Why a Log CabinWhy do we have the log cabin and animals on our home page http://www.jimschuster.com? That’s our office! It is a cedar log cabin built in 1940. While we don’t have the whole story, we are told that it was built by a couple of teachers from the Redford School District. They wanted a nice weekend retreat by the banks of the Rouge River. Southfield was a farming community then and the spot of land that the cabin sits on was a small unusable strip where the river crossed Lahser road. ![]() But, why are we in the log cabin instead of a high rise? In the early 90's our office was on the 17th floor of a major office building. Not only did it feel too institutional but it was impossible for some clients to find. Many a time clients showed up 20 minutes late very frustrated explaining they went to the wrong building, and then could not find their car. The log cabin fits our mission. We help ordinary folks struggle with crises of a life-time, such as dealing with Alzheimer’s or placing a family member in a nursing home. We want an office that is down to earth, a friendly, comfortable place where a person can feel relief. It is very accessible for elders who can park literally five feet from the front door! In addition we want to carry on the simple values of Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. Every man and woman is an equal citizen in the eyes of the law and deserves to be treated with utmost respect. Besides, it is just darn fun and nice to have a place where we can watch the squirrels and the birds of the forest playing and having their seed snack outside the window. Then there is the thrill of having rare visits by migrating hawks and other birds and the seeing the occasional deer family passing through. It’s just a nice place to be.
